Born on Betazed in 2361 to Naandus Raan and Vesa Zestri Raan, Iram was thirteen when the Dominion occupied his homeworld. As a Betazoid empath, the fear and suffering surrounding him left lasting emotional scars. During the occupation, he discovered charcoal sketching as a way to quiet the emotional noise and process his experiences. After the war, he completed his education before entering Starfleet Academy, where he discovered that while people were often difficult to understand, the stars always made sense.
